Eric Quach (destroyalldreamers, thisquietarmy) from Montreal QC, Ryan Ferguson (Electroluminescent, Sianspheric) from Hamilton ON, Pascal Asselin (Millimetrik, Le Chat Blanc Orchestra, Below The Sea) from Quebec City QC have often crossed paths during their musical careers with their various projects --- the first time in 2005. Since then, they've become close friends and have played together all over Quebec, Ontario & even in Europe.

It was only a matter of time before a collaboration was to happen. And so it did, on July 26th, 2009 - live at Sam Murdock's house in Quebec City where he runs the P572 label and occasionally host house shows. This project, dubbed Parallel Lines, in reference to their numerous musical endeavours, is the result of this musical collaboration between 3 great friends.

Split over 5 parts; or "movements", this live collaboration between 3 artists at the forefront of underground experimental music in Canada is quite an epic. Sprawling layers of guitars and synths create a huge wall of psyched out shoegaze over the top of rhythmic and hypnotic drumming. What you'll hear is something you would not hear from any of the artists individually; it's something new and exciting. The term "krautgaze" has been used and it's a pretty accurate description.

Limited to 200 hand stamped and hand numbered copies in standard windowed sleeve tied with string.

“In the Days Of Jupiter” is the 4th album from tri-state post-rock trio Lights Out Asia. Just as Jupiter eclipses the other planets in our solar systems, Lights Out Asia have eclipsed expectations by delivering their most expansive album to date. Not only in relative scope and emotional depth but also in proper use of something they have used sparingly on previous albums - open space. Their previous use of guitars in a more deliberate melodic role is somewhat subdued on “In The Days Of Jupiter”. The guitars here are utilized more just to drive a point home with the strings, field recordings and electronics being more of a prominent, and key, ingredient. Hidden below these expanses is a new sense of urgency within the band's songwriting which may shed a bit more light into their collective personal persona. Is it unrest? Anxiety? Loss? Are they at some personal crossroads? Or have they cultivated their collective emotions into one of their finest works to date.

Woah....how to kill my happy mood. Dying alone - now theres a thought. Better move onto the music. Bvdub has been part of the Pop Ambient series and the words Gas and dub techno are mentioned in the press thingymajig so I'm quite excited about this. It certainly lives up to the billing with superb drifty atmospherics, plucked acoustic guitar hidden somewhere under it all. Tracks seem to start with traditional sounding instruments plucked in a gently folky style before reverberating away into ethereal and ambient soundscapes. At its best such on the stunning 'To Finally Forget it all' the effect is akin to being carried along on some kind of cloud/cotton wool type material, the music resembling a softer Gas, dub techno rhythms just audible beneath the ambient gorgeousness. Really beautiful stuff & highly recommended.

"Traba" is a brand new mini-LP from the UK’s Simon Scott. In the early 90s Scott was the drummer for renowned shoegaze band Slowdive. Recent years have seen Scott running the KESH recordings label from his base in Cambridge, performing in the group Seavault with Anthony Ryan (ISAN) on Morr Music, and also working as a sound designer for television, film and sonic art installation.

2009 saw the release of Scott’s debut solo album "Navigare" released on Miasmah Recordings (run by Erik Skodvin of Svarte Greiner / Deaf Center). Scott has shared studio and stage with Brian Eno, Klimek, The Caretaker, Machinefabriek, Jasper TX, Nils Frahm, Seasons (Pre-Din), Rafael Anton Irisarri, Xela, Fever Ray, Svarte Greiner, Marcus Fjellstrom, Lawrence English, Fennesz, Leyland Kirby and Taylor Deupree. He has also remixed ON, Autistici and ISAN and provided production assistance for Hannu's album "Hintergarten". Scott also performs live with The Sight Below with Rafael Anton Irisarri and co-wrote songs on the new album "It All Falls Apart" (Ghostly International).

"Traba" contains four tracks that were written at the end of the sessions for "Navigare". When the deadline for completion of the album came and went these compositions were unfinished, but over the course of the summer and Autumn of 2009 they were completed in Scott’s o3o3o Studio in Cambridge. "Traba" continues and expands on the themes of submergence, being lost at sea, and intoxication.

"Traba" is pressed on high-quality virgin vinyl in an edition of 500 copies. Included is a free MP3 download coupon.

For those keeping track of Richard Bailey's (a.k.a. Proem) output, Enough Conflict is album number eight from the North American IDM veteran. The album finds Bailey in top form utilizing his technical bag of tricks to render an album for die-hard fans and new-comers alike. Those concerned with Bailey's dark ambient album “til there's no breath” on Nonresponse in 2009 can rest assured that Enough Conflict is just what they have been craving since “A Permanent Solution” (n5MD). Enough Conflict is Bailey's most diverse album mixing catchier melodic passages with some of his roughest beatwork since his debut album “Burn Plate no1”. This diversity of mood and style makes “Enough Conflict” engaging on repeated listens and a possible contender for one of the best IDM albums of 2010.

Belgian duo, Samir Bekaert and Maarten Vaderwalle arrive at Expanding Records, one of the more enduring electronica labels out there. You'll Never Find Us Here really doesn't fit with that sort of classification however, instead offering a richly varied selection of instrumental productions and tuneful home-listening excursions. Putting acoustic guitars and pianos to good use, Pq make soundtrack-like vignettes, with highlights such as the string-bestowed offering 'Jocelyn' and Max Richter-ish outing 'Your Perception Of Red'. Elsewhere you'll encounter acoustic guitar flurries of James Blackshaw proportions ('Will You Still Be There?'), a solitary ballad ('Louise On Earth', featuring a faintly spooky child's vocal) and the expertly produced 'Somebody Should Repeat My Summer', which sounds a little reminiscent of Helios. The influence of abstract, beat-driven, post-IDM electronics remains present, with a sequence of three tracks at the end of the album bringing to mind the output of primetime Hobby Industries or Morr Music: 'In Praise' is like an Opiate production with an electric guitar added to the mix and there's more top quality laptop juggling around the corner, providing clicky electronics and glitch rhythms for entries 'Hold Me' and the inappropriately titled 'Hidden Track'.

1. Taylor Deupree - Snow (Dusk, Dawn)

Download

"Transience, ephemerality. There is beauty in things that don't last. Taylor Deupree's Snow (Dusk, Dawn), a multimedia project incorporating sound and photography, is based around 63 photographs taken with expired polaroid film. This particular film produces images cast with other-worldly blueish hues and almost immediately begin to fade; losing color, to deep browns, and then finally, within 24 hours after being shot, to complete black. Deupree's work is often inspired by nature, particularly the winterscapes near his home and studio in rural New York. With the polaroid film in hand, which he knew would capture only a fleeting image, he shot images during the first heavy snowfall of the winter of 2009, at dusk, in the setting sun; nothing was to last, the snow, the image, the day. The next morning, barely at sunrise, he set out again to finish the film, in a dawn that wasn't going to last. As quickly as he could, following each photo session, Deupree scanned the polaroid prints, capturing the first white snow in ghostly blue before the pictures faded to black. Each of these scanned images is printed and displayed next to its original, black polaroid counterpart in the package along with the cd. Each copy of this edition of 63 is thus rendered unique, each with a different print and polaroid. For the music portion of the project there is also contrast, transience, and decay. A fragile melodic loop, distressed by surface noise, struggles to keep its repetitive flow over a quiet and languid 18 minutes as it subtly, but constantly, loses ground and eventually becomes fragmented and falls away amongst the elements that surrounded it. Snow (Dusk, Dawn) captures the essence of what much of deupree's work is about: imperfection, time, and memory. He uses both high- and low-tech means of creating rich works that scrape away at the surface of digital sterility. Avoiding the con- trolled manipulation offered by computers he prefers natural and unpredictable processes to add depth and texture to this work. Outdated film, cheap cameras, dust and leaking light effect his photographs while guitars, found percussion, old analog synthesizers and recordings of falling snow provide the soundtrack to a moment in time that comes and goes like dawn".
