Miko (Rie Mitsutake) composes her songs in shades of light and dark. Based on the outskirts of Tokyo, she seeks out vibrant harmony and shimmering rhythms that coalesce to create micro-universes in song-form.

On her sophomore album Chandelier, Miko creates a luminescent collection of songs that expand the unique and personal sound she explored on her debut album (issued by Plop). Working with organic instrumentation, led by voice, harmonic piano and restrained guitar lines, Miko utilises other less conventional elements (field recordings, unconventional percussion and more) to transform her songs from the everyday into something imaginary and evocative.

Choosing the name ‘Chandelier’ both for its sound when said and its association with light, Miko’s new album sees her inhabit an entirely warm and atmospheric song space. Its shapes and instruments bring to mind a new kind of folk music – in which the sounds of the spaces that fill her day connect with and influence the songs she writes. This is a profoundly enticing and personal space in which she is working and one that is illuminated by Miko’s imagined song worlds.

Strictly limited hand numbered vinyl pressing - 400 copies for the world* An extremely rare 12" outing for 12k, this EP reunites label boss Taylor Deupree with his long-term collaborative partner Savvas Ysatis. 'Hourglass' sees the duo returning to the lush, modified song-based material highlighted by their 2007 mini album, The Sleeping Morning. 'Clouds' might be the best actual 'song' these two have come out with to date, taking on a kind of downbeat hyper-real feel that casts acoustic instrumentation and vocals in an unnaturally glossy sheen, giving only a few small gestures towards the kind of electronic complexities we might have come to expect from Deupree. Instead, beautifully cinematic autoharp and harmonica are more prevalent here than anything sourced from computers - part of an organic setup that's previously seemed like an uneasy arrangement for these two accomplished electronic musicians. Completing the first side is 'Hourglass', the longest track here and probably the best of the bunch too, drifting along in a gusty, ambient fashion with plenty of studious improvisational detail coming through in the mix. The B-side begins with another vocally-led piece, 'Like Ice On A Summer's Day', and finally, the duo return to instrumental endeavours, summoning up another blissful soundscape for 'Somewhere On Earth', leaving you with a more organic take on the experimental material they're better known for. Limited to a mere 400 copies for the world, this 12" comes with a download coupon for the four tracks in both MP3 and FLAC formats directly from the label. Beautiful music - very highly recommended.

A meeting of minds spanning thousands of miles, 'Near And Faraway' marks the joint release by Italian ambient musician Fabio Orsi and Seaworthy, a three piece collective from Sydney, Australia.

With the 51 minute running time divided equally into three parts, each artist contributes a solo track which in turn bookend a collaborative composition that forms the album’s centrepiece.

Originally from Naples, Italy, but now a resident of Berlin, Fabio Orsi’s solo contribution to the album, ‘Evening By Evening’ skilfully demonstrates why he is regarded as one of his home country’s premier underground musicians. Utilising layers of guitars, keyboards and found sounds, Orsi creates an atmospheric audio postcard with a tangible sense of time and place.

Seaworthy, primarily the recording project of core member Cameron Webb, with additional instrumentation from Sam Shinazzi and Greg Bird, present ‘Branch And Stone’ a minimalist soundscape of looped guitar, electronics and field recordings. Throughout the track pervades a highly refined sense of texture, creating something at once intimate yet panoramic.

The individual elements of both artists are brought together for the title track, ‘Near And Faraway’. Through the long distance exchange of ideas and sound files, their shared experimental, yet melodic approach to composition are incorporated to form one unified whole. An album that is a perfect show of individuality, which is also able to represent itself as a greater cohesive entity.
